In my case, it was aptitude; texlive-science was left unupgraded
due to the error (in the reportbug mail, I fixed the version
manually). And unfortunately the error message appears behind
lots of other messages, and can eventually get lost depending on
the terminal (I did the upgrade from my phone). Next time I'll
have to remember that it can be found in "/var/log/apt/term.log".
