Bug#688845: texlive-fonts-extra: Please demote all additional Depends to Recommends

Same for mine, reading it the second time it sounded a bit too harsh,
sorry for that. Late night emailing is dangerous.

Alright, let's just forget about it and discuss productively again. :)

Actually, it is even worse for the time being, namely that the respective
texlive packages ship *links* to the font files, so we have to depend
on them.

If we don't have links, then someone searching for the fpnts with kpathsea
will not find them, and some documents might not work.

That's a valid point that I did not consider before. Could we leave the symlinks in place and teach kpathsea to ignore dangling symlinks? However, we would then need a trigger that re-runs kpathsea whenever a new font is installed.

I don't know what is the optimal solution ... or better - I know what
it is, but it will not happen: Namely packaging each and every TeX Live
package into *one* Debian pacage. But this has been rejected before,
and in addition will need a lot of work...

I don't think that a separate package for each component would make any sense as well. *But I would like to suggest to split t-f-e into two parts, one without external dependencies and one with them.*

a point, but we should carefully think about this, and also think
about which road we're getting onto when we make this change. Are
there other packages where people will ask us to demote many
Depends to Recommends? Do we want to do that? What is the
criterion for a Depends, then?

I think the t-f-e package is somehow special in this regard, since its dependencies are really exhaustive. I don't see any other texlive package with that many dependencies on external (i.e. not texlive-*) packages.
