"install-info" incompatible between Debian Lenny and TeX Live 2008
Hi,
I'm not sure whether this should be called a bug, but it is certainly
an issue, and since I couldn't find any information on this on the
"TeX Live and Debian"-page (http://www.tug.org/texlive/debian.html) I
thought I'd tell you about it.
The issue is: Both Debian (in the texinfo-Package) and TeX Live ship a
version of the install-info program. The version from Debian 5.0
"Lenny" and that from TeX Live 2008 seem to be incompatible. The
effect of this is that if you have installed the latter (manually,
using tlmgr, to /usr/local/...) and its install-info binary is in the
path, weird problems occur when installing other packages from Lenny
(pre- or post-installation scripts abort with an error message that is
not particularly useful). For now I solved the problem for myself by
getting TeX Live's install-info out of the way, but maybe it would be
good to resolve this issue in a more thorough way.
