   I still assume that the version installed by the bug reporter is just
   not the zlib version currently in unstable.

ii  zlib-bin       1.2.3.3.dfsg-2 compression library - sample programs
ii  zlib1g         1.2.3.3.dfsg-2 compression library - runtime
ii  zlib1g-dev     1.2.3.3.dfsg-2 compression library - development

   
   Of course, this does not explain why the dep was not added!
