Changwoo has merged this bug with one in texlive-base which looks very
similar indeed. However, I'm not sure this was correct:

The symptoms look similar, and for sure this bug belongs to us and not
hlatex-fons-base. But in the older bug report, the problem was solved
by completely upgrading the system. Does that indeed help you, too? Or
does the bug persist after the next "apt-get dist-upgrade"?
