Bug#439709: compiling /usr/share/doc/texlive-games/latex/skak/games.tex gives strange results

I think I saw that, too, while investigating that problem. It's
formulated as:
If you want to replace the standard skak fonts with the new ones
then ...
It seems allowed not to do that, though. So I'm a bit surprised.
Anyhow, I have yet another problem with skak (in texlive, tetex seems
unaffected). With an input file as simple as:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{skak}
\begin{document}
\newgame
\mainline{%
1. Nf3
}
\end{document}
--->8---
The Knight is not shown correctly. There is a small dot where the
knight symbol should be. Probably just another font issue.
BTW, I cannot reproduce the original bug with tetex' skak.
