I don't think so. I don't think tex-common is doing any harm, and the
infrastructure is ready for another TeX distribution switch if
necessary...

Er, because it is an automatically added section? :-)

Yes, that's it. update-fmtutil takes virtually no time, so optimizing it
away is quite uninteresting. It's very different from fmtutil-sys.

(anyway, in case dh_installtex makes this "optimization", lmodern would
need to be rebuilt in order to take advantage of it)
