Here's one more, sorry...
When dist-upgrading from etch with "texlive" installed, texlive-bin
fails to configure because it also tries to build metafont, but
# ls /etc/texmf/metafont/misc/
modes.mf.dpkg-new
(that's probably a consequence of your fullfilling my wish not to
include copies of conffiles in TEXMFDIST)
The sequence
dpkg -r texlive-base
dpkg --configure -a # or better --configure texlive-base-bin
apt-get install texlive-base
repairs the system. After that, all seems well except one thing which
is also in the current packages, normal severity and deserves a separate
bug.
