Well, maybe not.  I was somehow assuming that I'd upload tex-common
right away, without having time to copy debianize-updmap.  That was
wrong, I am currently preparing the upload of 0.32 with the script in
it.  So a package that depends on 0.32 anyway could stop shipping
debianize-updmap at once.
