It seems your file got corrupted for some reason, because:
- the line is 'd^^f35ne' in tetex-base versions 3.0.dfsg.3-1 (testing,
unstable) as well as 3.0-21 from http://snapshot.debian.net/
- I searched the tetex-base changelogs and the debian-tex SVN
repository and found no mention of a change to this file since its
inclusion in either place.
