In tetex-bin, there are three metafont binaries: mfw compiled with X support mf-nowin compiled with no X support mf symlink to mfw In texlive-base-bin, there are only: mf compiled with X support mf-nowin compiled with no X support Why the discrepancy? The mf symlink could be turned into an alternative were we ever to separate out the X Windows parts of the TeX system. Julian
