Norbert did not say theat there was something wrong with the DVI file.
The problem is, as he said, that xdvi often does not display PostScript
correctly. This is well known, documented and unlikely to change (see
xdvi(1) 'LIMITATIONS').

The realy odd thing is that the xdvi on the fedora system gets it right.
However, this is probably just by chance. As far as I understand this,
xdvi first puts the text on the screen, while the PS image is displayed
afterwards overwriting the text. If you use the magnifier, PS display is
disabled, hence you see the text only.
