Exactly the same. Start texdoctk from command-line, get a tk window,
access categories for another single list dialog box, select an entry
from this new list, click 'view', then I get the error message.

The error message I get appears to come from around line 327 in
texdoctk.

Using the search interface works (enter a search term from a title, get
a 'found' dialog box, select entry, AOK).

- is there a way to turn on a debug output in tcl (like bash -x would
  do)?
- is there some type of indexing command that needs to be run?

Thanks in advance for your help,
