Bug#178712: tetex-bin: mktexpk handles ttf fonts with gsftopk, which breaks on CJK

Hmm... I think Frank asked you to try with tetex 3, which is not yet in
unstable (only in experimental and on http://people.debian.org/~frank/).

Note, if you are going to use tetex 3: you'll have to use updmap-sys
instead of updmap for system-wide administration.

This suggests, in your first try, that either your file in
/etc/texmf/updmap.d was not considered by update-updmap (which name did
you give it?), or updmap did not include arphic.map in
/var/lib/texmf/dvips/config/pdftex.map.

Could you look at the contents of arphic.map and tell us in which files
under /var/lib/texmf/dvips/config/ this contents is included, if any?
