Inclusion of SFD files

Hi list!

In order to get Chinese, Japanese and Korean Type1, TFM and AFM fonts,
I need subfont definition files (either with the fontforge utility or
with ttf2tfm/ttf2pk from freetype1-tools).  TDS 1.1 provides a
$SFDFONTS variable and has an extra subdirectory in $TEXMF/fonts/sfd.
Subfont definition files are needed to chop a TTF into pages or planes
of 2^8 glyphs when converting to .pfb or .tfm files.

/usr/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf:

  % Subfont definition files.
  SFDFONTS = .;$TEXMF/fonts/sfd//

  These .sfd files can be found in the freetype1-tools package, but
ever since the CJK LaTeX macro provides fontforge scripts to create
.pfb, .afm, .enc, and the lot, ttf2tfm and ttf2pk aren't needed
anymore.

  Given the fact that TDS 1.1 has a dedicated sfd/ subdirectory,
wouldn't it make more sense to provide the .sfd files in the main
teTeX package, rather than in freetype1-tools? Or to have at least
an empty /usr/share/texmf/fonts/sfd/ created by teTeX?

Best regards
