This file is installed by tetex-base. Is tetex-base correctly installed
and configured? The file is installed as
/etc/texmf/map/dvips/tetex/dvips35.map and is found via the symlink
$ ls -ld /usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/dvips
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2005-10-20 18:59 /usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/dvips -> /etc/texmf/map/dvips
Does that link exist on your system?
Or is there a directory /usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/? If that is
the case, please move its content (what is it?) to /etc/texmf/map/dvips
and create the above link. After calling 'mktexlsr', 'updmap-sys' should
then work properly.
