Subject: mozilla 0.9.9 needs mathml fonts
Delivered-To: submit@bugs.debian.org

Package: mozilla
Version: 0.9.9-1
Severity: normal

The new mathml support requires access to the cmsy10 and cmex10
fonts from tetex-extras in /usr/share/texmf/fonts/type1/bluesky/cm.
Currently these fonts are unused and type1inst must be called in
this dir to prepare the fonts.dir. Once this is done and a FontPath
is added in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 pages such as ...

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/mathml/start.xml

...are rendered fine. I would suggest we make mozilla depend on
tetex-extras. I am wondering if we should just have the path
to /usr/share/texmf/fonts/type1/bluesky/cm hard-coded into
the mozilla startup script. Either tetex-extras or mozilla will
have to insure that /usr/share/texmf/fonts/type1/bluesky/cm is
prepared with a fonts.dir. I am unclear if this will require
the end-user to have type1inst available or if tetex-extras
should call type1inst in /usr/share/texmf/fonts/type1/bluesky/cm
before being packaged.

This bug (and his brothers) mainly spoke about making the CM fonts
(.pfb and .afm files) of tetex-extra available to XFree and split
them off into a separate package. The reasons are described above.
Meanwhile there exist latex-xft-fonts, which should do the job
independent of teTeX and both browsers suggest the fonts. Therefore I
close the bug.
However me and other people from d-t-maint (thanks to Florent, Frank
and Atsuhito) put some work into #225004 I don't want to throw away.
Hence I posted the latest patch for it into #327480 together with a
TODO list.
I promise I don't have the time to work on this, so don't expect any
further action. Sorry!

Regards,
  Hilmar
