Bug#250216: dvips do not support True Type -fonts

Package: tetex-bin
Version: 2.0.2-14
Severity: wishlist

Using TrueType fonts in (La)TeX is not as good as it could be: True Type
-fonts must be converted to Type 1 -format and in that process some of
its quality may be lost. First example that comes to my mind is
Bitstream Vera -fonts in CTAN (they are under name bera).

It is possible to use True Type-fonts in pdf(La)TeX, of course, but what
I want is a possibility to use those font under normal (La)TeX, too. And
in normal (La)TeX it must be done via dvips. I do not want to use
proprietary software, like TrueTeX, for that.

Maybe dvips could do it internally like this: Convert that True Type
-font to Type 42 -format and then embed it it PostScript-file. IIRC Type
42 -formatted fonts are just wrapped True Type -fonts.
