amlatex files have been changed incompatibly, and these files are needed
to compile old documents and get the original layout etc. Such
documents, with the compatibility packages in the \usepackage statement,
are available on the same server.
Thomas Viehmann, can you send us an url where these files can actually
be retrieved? I couldn't find it from the link you gave above, or in
http://arxiv.org/ftp/macros/. Google also does not help.
