I think we should do it otherwise. Instead of collecting all md5sums in
a single file, ucf also supports a directory texmf.cnf.md5sum.d/. We put
a file in there for every version that we generate. And we tell
maintainers of other packages to put the md5sums of texmf.cnf, when it
is created with their additions to texmf.d/, into the same directory.

b) Should you be asked by ucf because it thinks you have modified the
   file, please switch to a different console/xterm and make a copy of
   the old file, and register it's md5sum.
