What version of which package are you using to obtain "This is pdfeTeX,
Version 3.141592-1.20b-rc3-2.2" from just "latex" ?
On my system, I have tetex-bin 2.0.2-17, and it claims:
This is e-TeX, Version 3.14159-2.1
The latest tetex-bin seems to be 2.0.2-24. There have been such a change
without even a change in the upstream version number, just with changing
the "debian release" part of the version number?
In the "Debian Changelog", I see no item suggesting those changes:
- change of the Knuth base source (3.14159 -> 3.141592)
- change of the pdfTeX base source (1.10b -> 1.20b)
- change of the eTeX base source (2.1 -> 2.2)
- change of the web2c system (7.4.5 -> 7.5.3)
- change of the LaTeX kernel (2001/06/01 -> 2003/12/01)
- others I cannot state from your message...
But, well, anyway, this bug seems to be fixed, which is the important
point. I did not upgrade my system to 2.0.2-24 to check: I do not want
to have so much changes in what I use than the ones which seems to be
involved in this "minor" release.
Thanks for your work on that point.
Benjamin.
