You are trying to use the cm-super fonts, but then it cannot find
them. This might be a local misconfiguration, but it may also be a bug
introduced by a recent change by us.

You didn't include the debconf information in your bug report - what is
the output of

debconf-show tetex-bin

If it says

  tetex-bin/upd_map: true

without a star (*) in front of it, it might help you do
"dpkg-reconfigure tetex-bin" and choose not to use update-updmap to
manage updmap.cfg. This is a deprecated mechanism, however, and although
it might get you back type1 fonts in your thesis, you should switch to
update-updmap as soon as possible, and add locally installed fonts as
described in the manpage of update-updmap.

If that does help you, please stay tuned - other people will experience
the same problem, and we have to find a way for all of them, and would
be grateful if you would provide us some more information.

Regards, Frank
