Bug#200496: dvips does not print to printer by default
Package: tetex-bin
Version: 2.0.2-4.1
Severity: normal
Hi,
I use dvips quite often and with the last upgrade, it does
not send to the default printer by default, but in a PS
file instead.
Here is the man page part :
-P printername
[...]
If no -P
command is given, the environment variable PRINTER is checked.
[...]
But :
julie[CV] echo $PRINTER
lp
julie[CV] dvips cv-light.dvi
This is dvips(k) 5.92b Copyright 2002 Radical Eye Software (www.radicaleye.com)
' TeX output 2003.06.27:1939' -> cv-light.ps
<texc.pro><aae443f0.enc><bbad153f.enc><texps.pro><special.pro>.
<cmsy10.pfb><cmmi10.pfb><wasy10.pfb>[1<photo.eps>]
No -P, no -o and no -f options are given and it prints to PS file
instead of directly to the lp printer...
info dvips says :
If no `-P' or `-o' is given, the environment variable `PRINTER' is
checked. If that variable exists, and a corresponding
`config.PRINTER' (`PRINTER.cfg' on MS-DOS) file exists, it is read.
But it should print to the printer anyway, even if it does not
find a config file (and that's what is done with -P lp).
