Hello, recently, I couldn't create a pdf from a latex document with pdflatex, because its pool size was too low. I had no problem creating a dvi. I found out, that there is no pool_size.pdftex in your /var/lib/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf file. I added pool_size.pdflatex = 500000 and everything went fine.
