As far as I have seen, no. Your templates are OK (no error in the
template file)

I've made a lot of work for either debconf templates or package
description translations. Such descriptions made by non native english
speaker are sometimes "problems", but in that case, I just file a bug
report (provided I indentify that this is incorrect english....I'm
also not a native english speaker..:-))
IMHO, don't bother too much in having perfect templates. If changes
are needed, then you will change the templates. Translations will then
become fuzzy...and responsible translators (such as myself...:-)) will
update them.
The only annoyance for you as DD is keeping track of your translators
and then notify them when you update the templates. There is no solid
method for having this be done automagically, at this time.
For my own package (geneweb), I just keep an alias with all
translators. This is enough for having very responsive updates...

There, you will notice that the guy working on the japanese
translation of the xfree86 template files has some work to do..:-)

Surely, no. The french one will be the first.
Moreover, there is probably a string argument for you : switching to
po-debconf templates will make japanese translations easier...because
character encoding is more carefully handled by po-debconf... I guess
that argument will maybe help convincing you..:-)
