Re: configure network failed and installation incomplete (w/o logs)

Hola,

I'm wondering if I pulled one of those posting to the wrong group things. Perhaps I should have sent this to debian-user, but it seemed like it was an Etch issue, and not package specific.

Or possibly I should have written about my situation more up front, instead of burying it in amongst all the documentation that I sent along. I used the installation report template because it seemed like it probably covered the questions that I should answer in the first place, but I'm not just trying to send in an installation report via the list. I'm trying to figure out why the Etch install short circuits.

The main problem that I can pinpoint at the moment is that /etc/network/interfaces did not have these lines added to it automatically:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

The Configure the Network step seems to fail because of this. Sarge doesn't have a problem with setting it up on the same machine.

The log files that I omitted from this posting (possibly they were too large) are viewable at bug #335151 which was created when I mailed
in my installation report as directed in the template.

If my info is not of use for improving testing then I'll be happy to move over to debian-user to get some simple support.

Thanks,

Dave
