Bug#310277: upgrade-reports: Aptitude failure during upgrade

Package: upgrade-reports
Severity: normal

Archive date: Sat May 21 19:00:01 UTC 2005
Upgrade date: Sat May 21
uname -a: Linux whinlatter 2.4.18-bf2.4 #1 Son Apr 14 09:53:28 CEST 2002 i686 GNU/Linux
Method: aptitude -f --with-recommends dist-upgrade

Contents of /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 r0 _Woody_ - Official i386 Binary-1 (20020720)]/ unstable contrib main non-US/contrib non-US/main
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ sarge main
deb http://security.debian.org/ sarge/updates main

- Were there any non-Debian packages installed before the upgrade?

  No.

- Was the system pre-update a pure woody system?

Yes. Fresh install from 3.0r0 i386 DVD, updated with all current
point release changes and security updates.

- Did any packages fail to upgrade?

  No.

- Were there any problems with the system after upgrading?

  No.

Further Comments/Problems:

Aptitude broke completely during the upgrade. Here's the log,
and the fix. The fix should be in the release notes (my system
had no APT changes from the defaults):

[Excluding the package list: it's not relevant to aptitude breakage.]
