So this ist you vga controller. I don't know how ATIs Radeon is
supported by XFree. Maybe there was an update of XFree with the last
apt-get update and now graphics support is broken?

I think there is a problem when switching from graphic to text mode. Do
you have any difficulties when switching from xfree to text console and
vice versa?
