problem with the X server on sarge

I have just installed the latest version of debian Sargre usingnetinstall. after installing the gnome desktop, I tried to activate GDM.An error message appeared, telling me that the X server could not bestarted, and asked me if I would want to look at the output to seewhat's wrong. the output was completely empty.


I am using a hp pavilion ze4805us computer, and I have booted with acpi=off.
