Thanks Andreas,

When I first installed the mgetty packages I was looking for vgetty.  It 
is not in the packages I got from "apt-get install mgetty (fax, voice, 
doc, etc.).  I will try compiling from source to see if that produces 
the vgetty binary needed.  This is strange though as I looked through 
the reported bugs and nobody else seems to have come across this :-|
