also tried the net-1440.img with memdisk of the syslinux package.

sony vaio pcg c1mzx (has some bugs with the ali ide controller, but it 
doesnt seem so in this kernel version)

Comments/Problems:
in the main menu I select 4, http, 18 for Germany, I tried several 
mirrors, no proxy information, I tried sid and sarge, and then I start 
the net-retriever

it wget -c -q the .udebs, but halts after wgeting 
console-fonts_2002.12.04dbs-1_all.udeb with the error message:

console-fonts_2002.12.04dbs-1_all.udeb: applet not found

btw:
on the alt-f2 console some commands like ps won't work:

ps: relocation error: ps: symbol getpwui, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined 
in libc.so.6 with link time reference

I'm closing a bunch of old installation reports that do not appear to be
related to the current state of the installer (ie. report problems that has
been fixed now; some of these should have been closed ages ago, but never
was). Feel free to test the d-i beta and submit new installation reports :-)
