Review: Official Sarge JIGDO Install 15 Sept 03

Hi,

I recently, as of 14 Sunday used jigdo to build an official testing CD
set.

Computer hardware:
Asus P4G8x-Deluxe
	P4 2.4
	1G RAM
	Plextor PX-708A DVD-RW
	ATI Radeon 9700
	Broadcom gigabit adapter
	SiS SATA
	Intel Corp. 82801DB AC'97 Audio

I had to upgrade the CDROM on this computer from a TDK CD-RW because of
consistent install boot failure with Linux (Debain and Redhat). Model
number for that drive was

I booted from the new disk set. It went into the new installer. I ran
into two snags that prevented the installation. 1) Broadcom network
adapter and 2) SiS SATA adapter. Neither of those two sub-systems
appear to be supported under the current version of Debian testing. I
have included the /proc/pci info to further describe them.

I had gotten so used to relying on stock kernels to provide the
necessary drivers that compiling the source proved interesting. It has
been a while since I felt I had too _NEW_ of hardware for Linux to
handle natively.

Of note, I am also having problems with the the Host bridge on the MB,
preventing the /dev/agpgart from working due to the Intel 7205 chipset.
Another example of the patch being out there but not in the main yet.

The problems I encountered appear to all revolve around the kernel and
packaged drivers.
