Yes, I think it's bad because the "old" calctool was working very well,
and moreover, it was very light. I'm not using heavy things like gnome
or kde : my laptop has a 6 Gb hard disk....but if I want to upgrade the
"calctool" package (so, it means installing Sebastien's one), it happens
that I need to install 23 Mb of libraries:

The following extra packages will be installed:
  bonobo-activation gconf2 gnome-mime-data libart-2.0-2
libbonobo-activation4
  libbonobo2-0 libbonobo2-common libbonoboui2-0 libbonoboui2-common
  libcdparanoia0 libfam0c102 libgconf2-4 libglade2-0 libgnome2-0
  libgnome2-common libgnomecanvas2-0 libgnomecanvas2-common libgnomeui-0
  libgnomeui-common libgnomevfs2-0 libgnomevfs2-common liblinc1
liborbit2
  libscrollkeeper0 libxslt1 scrollkeeper
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  bonobo-activation calctool gconf2 gnome-mime-data libart-2.0-2
  libbonobo-activation4 libbonobo2-0 libbonobo2-common libbonoboui2-0
  libbonoboui2-common libcdparanoia0 libfam0c102 libgconf2-4 libglade2-0
  libgnome2-0 libgnome2-common libgnomecanvas2-0 libgnomecanvas2-common
  libgnomeui-0 libgnomeui-common libgnomevfs2-0 libgnomevfs2-common
liblinc1
  liborbit2 libscrollkeeper0 libxslt1 scrollkeeper
0 packages upgraded, 27 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not
upgraded.
Need to get 4789kB of archives. After unpacking 22.8MB will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

Is this necessary to install all these things in order to have a
calculator ??? I have a lot of respect for Sebastien, and all the
others, who are doing a great job and spending a lot of time maintaining
the packages. However, debian has always been a great distribution
because users had choice (using or not using Gnome, KDE or whatever
else). This time, a choice has disappeared.

Cheers, Frédéric.

PS This probably means that I should maintain the "old calctool" package
myself....I'm thinking about it.
