Re: Odd font conflict between Abiword and Mozilla

Whenever I start Mozilla by itself, the fonts look fine:

Mozilla look different (and not very good):

when abiword starts, it adds it's font dirs to the font path. abiword
provides its own version of arial, and some other fonts. these versions
are of an inferior quality, and when mozilla selects 'arial' as its font,
it may select the abiword variant.
you can check font-paths before and after launching abiword using
xset q
as an example, here are mine:
before launching abiword:
Font Path:
/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi
after:
Font Path:
/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi,/usr/share/AbiSuite/fonts,/usr/share/AbiSuite/fonts/
I'm not sure how to correct all this. There is something on it on the
abiword website, but that solution was not quite satisfactory, since it
required my running abiword as root and selecting all fonts at least once,
to create certain additional (metrics?) files.
Ah, I just found out that abiword actually removes its font location from
the font path when you close it. It didn't do that before.
