FWIW, testing has been working just fine (including gnome) for me. The
only breakage I've seen in the past several months was with sendmail.
A message to debian-user brought an almost immediate response from the
maintainer (thanks, Rick) and the problem was resolved by an upgrade to
the version from sid (which made it to woody the next day).
The biggest problem I see is that packages occasionally disappear from
the Packages list, which could cause difficulties with an upgrade.
Whether or not an upgrade from potato will succeed seems to be a matter
of timing.
