Problems with graphics

Hello,

last week I installed the woody prerelease distributed by Lehmanns.
Basically, it worked fine, but I still have problems using the graphics.
When I want to use the mouse, there are frequently phases, where the arrow
on the screen does not respond to the mouse movements for some seconds.
Sometimes the arrow disappears and appears at another place. I tried kde as
well as gnome. With fvwm2 it works best, but the behaviour still is there.

Can anybody give me hint what i could try to improve behaviour? Hints to
How-To sites are welcome also. My installation skills are modest, it's my
first attempt to use debian.

I have XFree86, version 4 running. The processor is an AMD with 550 MHz.

Thank you,

Martin
