You are right... the bad package was `gs', which I also added to the
standard system (but did not realize until today, when I was unable to
reproduce the error following my own recipe).

By running dpkg-preconfigure on each .deb file I finally arrived at
the psfontmgr_0.4.5 package in woody, which gs recommends.

The Bug is #106360 (grave), reported by you three days ago (funny :-).

Now, ideally I would like to see psfontmgr_0.4.5 out of woody, but I
don't know whether this is asking too much.
