Just did an install on a HP 486 vectra and a 486 Dell.  One with the
"safe" floppies the other with the normal ones.  I had the same
problem with the modules (3c509 and Lance), from the menu didn't work,
but it was fine when I did the insmod by hand.

ditto here. 

Also I notice that kerneld is install and started but it gives a
message that for 2.2.x kernels it should _not_ be run.
