Re: Sun fire V890 UltraSparc server kernel panic, offer to assist with fixing it and future ports

Hey Jeff

The machine has four "boards". Each board has two processor sockets and 16 RAM sockets (DIMMs). The label on each board says all RAM slots must be populated.

There may be a way to make part of the ram inaccessible using the OpenBootPROM. I know it's possible to turn off the RAM slots on some of the boards, but even if only one board is active the system will have 8GBs of RAM.

I'll have to research that some more or try with some RAM removed and see what happens.

Just a thought, i recall some sun hardware not booting the installer
if there is more than 1GB of ram.

I had to remove a bunch from our v240s we have here - you can put it
back after the install.
