Odd boot problem - SunBlade 100
Hi,
I've finally managed to get the current etch beta installed on my
SunBlade 100 (using ide=nodma on the install boot line).
However, now it seems erratically unwilling to boot. It will stop at
one of the following lines (there doesn't seem to be any particular
pattern to this):
Input: USB HID v1.00 Mouse [HID 0430:0100] on usb-0000:00:0c:3-2
eth0: Link is up at 100 Mbps full duplex
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
also occasionally just after the 'populating /dev' line, after
outputting Firewire Ethernet info.
Turning it off and back on again to cause reboot will lead to it getting
to a different line.
If it gets past all of this, it then reliably hangs at
Starting Hardware abstraction layer: hald
I managed to boot with 'Linux single' (after a couple of rounds of boot
hanging, as above), removed the links to start dbus in /etc/rc2.d
(rc3.d, rc4.d, rc5.d), and it then booted OK. However, on reboot, once
again it hung during the initial hardware stages (as above), & I was
unable to get it past those despite repeated reboots, in either regular
or single mode.
(Previous experience indicates that if I leave it for a couple of hrs, I
may be able to get it booted again, although there will be a couple of
hangs first).
This looks suspiciously like a hardware issue to me; but there were no
known problems with the box previously (when it was running Solaris 10).
Any thoughts/suggestions/pointers would be appreciated!
Juliet
