Gigabit Ethernet on Sun E420
Hi all,
I just installed a Debian Sarge (3.1r1) on a Sun E420, with 1 Gigabit
Eth card, provided by Sun GEM (PCI) 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet
08:00:20:ff:23:3e. Debian recognizes this card as a giga card.
After this boot, I receive some messages about this eth5 card, telling
me that it's in 1000 (giga)
eth5: Pause is enabled (rxfifo: 20480 off: 17408 on: 15872)
eth5: Link is up at 1000 Mbps, full-duplex.
My swicth (catalyst 6500) has 1 port configured to this interface in
1000 full-duples, but I don't know why, ethtool reports me that this
interface is in 100 full
Settings for eth5:
Supported ports: [ TP MII ]
Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
1000baseT/Half 1000baseT/Full
Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
Advertised link modes: 100baseT/Half
1000baseT/Half 1000baseT/Full
Advertised auto-negotiation: No
Speed: 100Mb/s
Duplex: Full
Port: MII
PHYAD: 0
Transceiver: external
Auto-negotiation: on
Current message level: 0x00000007 (7)
Link detected: yes
To verify if this interface has some traffic, I started tcpdump on it,
but I didn't receive any single packet.
I am sure that my switch is OK, because, with Solaris, this card, on
this machine, received some packets.
Does anybody got this problem before, or have some tip to fix the
correct speed on this interface, even by /etc/modules.conf file ?
Regards.
Gustavo
