Debian should "just work" on sun4c. Or at least it did last time I tried. 2.6 
kernel may/may not work (I haven't tried) but 2.4 should be OK (I haven't 
tried Debian 2.4 kernels, but vanilla kernels from kernel.org have always 
worked for me). I think Debian-Installer is broken on sun4c, but the 
traditional installer should work just fine.

All sparc packages will work with sun4c, no recompilation or anything else is 
needed.
