I really didn't understand the question, but I know that error (from 
some x86 installs). Usually, I either used the wrong mouse protocol or 
the wrong driver.

dpkg-reconfigure -plow xserver-xfree86

Just try a few different settings (I know that doesn't really answer 
that question, but it worked for me) :)
