I don't like SuSE either.. Java is however available as a installable .bin
via Blackdown (which should work for all flavours of Linux out there)

It smells like you downloaded the wrong iso, however. My debian iso boots
perfectly from cdrom without any nfs mounting at all. Maybe it's an
architectural issue, my workstation is an Ultra, not a "vanilla" sparc.
