I put the line Load "dri" in the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and got an error,
see bellow extracts of /var/log/XFree.0.log :

I think i have found why XFree was so slow :

My locale is LANG=fr_FR@euro and require font iso-8859-15

I run an : apt-get install 'xfonts.*transcoded'
And the XFree seems now Ok.
