I suspect it only bit me when I installed a 2.4 kernel.  You get a 2.2
one initially, don't you?

Niet, something in the range 2.4.17-.19.

The 2.2 are more stable, then? I could give those a try, altough I've
grown accustomed to iptables...

Can anyone say why the one-line fix hasn't been applied, either in the
vanilla kernel or Debian patches?  I was originally told it would
appear.

Maybe because of what Irvin told - it doesn't work for everyone. Or was
it just that the fix wasn't good enough, because there still exists a
small  delay.. (A poor reason if you ask me)
