I have no connect to my sparc this time ;( But onlyy what I did was:
apt-get source kernel-source-2.4.18
cd /usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18
make menuconfig clean dep vmlinuz modules
su -c"make modules_install"
copy vmlinuz/System.map/.config to /boot
edit /etc/silo.conf
reboot
works
