After the reboot and at the point apt/dselect sources are selected.
Specifying /dev/scd0 on the optional path line fixed the problem.

Hi Steve

I has the same problem with my scsi cdrom on a ss10.
I have changed by my ss10 the device (in the APT start question) path from
/dev/CD-ROM to /dev/scd0.
You can use the command apt-setup, to configure deselect. At the menupoint
Cdrom press enter and then type  /dev/scd0 in the field.
