Ditto, an year ago for me.

My list:

deb http://ftp1.us.debian.org/debian potato main contrib non-free
deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US potato non-US/main non-US/contrib non-US/non-free

My advice is to 

apt-get update
apt-get install apt debconf
apt-get dist-upgrade

The idea is to use the latest apt-get first, and then update the rest.
