SS20 Default Color Depth

Dear..

How do I set default color depth.

I'm use ss20 and debian potato version.

[root@sparc20 /root] dmesg

The Xserver use only 8 depth (eg, I'm use xsun and also xsun24)

PS) Is anyone use SMP mode SS20 machine? 
Compiling kernel version 2.2.12 with egcs-2.91.66.
when turn off SMP mode in configuration the kernel very well, but
enable SMP mode in configuration system is don't boot.
